OSS SoundBlaster Live! drivers came with an utility called emu-dspmgr which enabled loading custom-made DSP patches (code written in Emu10k1's assemby language).
As I am moving from Alsa to Emu10k1, I'm looking for such an utility in ALSA... Most of you will probably say that it's not needed, since ALSA comes with built-in tone control, etc., but I need it for a reason -- I wrote a simple "DSP patch" which does a function of "noise gate", and for some simple effects like chorus, etc (I use it with my guitar). I wonder whether it is possible with ALSA, in simple questions: Is there such a thing? Where to get it from If not, is there a kind of API for writing such utility? I could help writing it. If not, is it maybe on some TODO or planned features list? I could try helping also... Regards, Dawid PS: While we're at it -- I have a weird setup: I have Headphones connected to "front speakers" exit I have (2) speakers connected to "digital/LFE" exit (for couple of "logistic" reasons -- microphone input is too large to plug it between both headphones and rear speakers) I managed to get it working, but I'd like to: - have alsa emu10k1 "digital/LFE" exit start in analog mode (the big "pufbwmwmwmwm" sound from boot till starting of mixer is kind of annoying). - have mixers renamed -- just a curiosity question, is it possible, as was with OSS (to attach mixer to different device) PPS: I have virtually no experience with ALSA (I did look through with google and FAQs before writing this mail). PPPS: I promise to write a hopefully comprehensive ALSA with Sound Blaster live HOWTO, with all the quirks and oddities an emu-dspmgr-using OSS convert might want to know, provided these features are possible. ------------------------------------------------------- The SF.Net email is sponsored by EclipseCon 2004 Premiere Conference on Open Tools Development and Integration See the breadth of Eclipse activity.
