I am trying to use two emu10k's for DJ usage and cannot get sound to
play out of the second one. No matter what I do both sound streams play
out of the first instance. It's on Mandrake 9.2, 512MB RAM. Both cards
are found according to /proc and dmesg, I have separate I/O ports
locations for each one. Compatibility does not create a /dev/dsp1 but
/dev/dsp is there and works fine. Each card has been tested separately
by removing the other and rebooting. Each works fine. I installed
Windows to test the configuration and it works fine, both cards. But
Windows is not stable enough for live performances so I really want to
use Linux.

In ALSA mixer GUI I have raised every volume slider and tried every
combination that I can think of with no success.

In the five or six hours that I have spent researching this I have not
yet come to understand the ALSA rc.sound settings and what they mean or
what to use, nor have I a clear understanding of what device names mean
what. So perhaps I can request a little help on that front as well. I
found, via a google search, a HOWTO for two OSS devices, and how to use
two devices as one. But I am trying to use them as individuals and am
completely unsure what to change to make it function as I need.

I would like to get this working and then publish a Howto to save those
after me this much trouble.

Thank you very much in advance.
