I'm using the ALSA version (ALSA 1.0.1-1.cvs.rhfc1.ccrma rpm) that comes with CCRMA for Fedora. I don't know when you changed the "default enable" behaviour -> is this already valid for the version I'm currently using?

This is what my current modules.conf looks like:

-------------
alias char-major-116 snd
alias char-major-14 soundcore

# SB Ensonique 1371 PCI card:
alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss
alias snd-card-0 snd-ens1371
alias sound-slot-0 snd-ens1371
-------------

I don't understand yet how it should look like when I want to enable the other (2nd) PCI SB card (?). I would also like to suggest to add this information to the FAQ's or ALSA's manual as there's no way to figure it out yourself. Could you provide me with an example or pinpointer on how to accomplish this?

Thanks for the response...

I'm currently trying to setup a multitrack recording system with several
soundcards. Now I've to get 2 identical soundcards (SoundBlaster PCI64
with ensonique1361 chipset) to work. How can I accomplish this? Somehow
I have to (probably) load the ens1371 alsa module 1x and tell linux that
there are 2 soundcards using (thus creating to alsahw-devices). I think
this should be done in /etc/modules.conf but I'm unable (even after
thoroughly searching the web etc.) to make it work.

options snd-ens1371 enable=1,1

well, we changed the policy and all PCI and PnP devices are already
enabled as default. so, it's not the cause, i guess.

better to show your /etc/modules.conf.
