I'm starting up several alsaplayers on different devices like this: alsaplayer -d channel12 ... alsaplayed -d channel34 ...
sometimes I can get it to work just fine, but other times I get corrupt audio. I don't know if this is an alsaplayer problem or an alsa problem. The channel12 always works fine, it is just the other channels that have problems. If I start them all at once it definitely doesn't work. But if I wait for the first to actually start playing before starting the next one then it seems to work sometimes. But I can't quantify so far what I need to do for it to always work.
