Hi,
Before I start ... I'm new to Linux so go easy.

I was hoping to get a system going with the basics and then slowly learn
about it a bit at a time. I have a relatively new P4 system that
normally runs XP, but dual boots into Redhat 9. The sound runs fine
under XP, but in Linux ... never a peep. I downloaded and installed the
various alsa modules in the hope I could get it going ... but to no
avail. I've also been searching through newsgroups etc for a clue ...
and whilst there have been a few clues from similar problems with other
chipsets, so far I'm still stuck.

Has anyone had similar problems,or can anyone give me a few logical
tests to try to at least help narrow down the problem.

The main clue I have so far is a consistent error in /var/log/messages
that says ...
modprobe: Can't locate module sound-slot-0
and then ...
modprobe: Can't locate module sound-service-0-3

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated ...
