Would you believe that it was the version of XMMS that I was using! I can't believe it. I might download the CVS version of ALSA anyway though. What do you think? I have another question though. I have OSS emulation enabled because some things only use this (UT2004 for one). But, obviously, these will use the default device instead of the 48000Hz one I set up. Is there any way to set the 48000Hz device as default so everything will play fine?

In response to Benjamin's email I would check lsub but for some reason lsusb isn't installed. Do you know which package it comes with? I know it comes with Slackware but recently I switched to Gentoo and it's not installed which is strange.
