Did you unmute the speakers?
I think they're unmuted. When I go into 'alsamixer -c1' it shows me five sliders. 'Bass', 'Treble', and 'PCM' are at 100. 'Bass Boo' and 'Auto Gai' I can't adjust. None of the sliders have 'MM' above them, so I don't think any of them are muted. I can press the 'M' key and that puts 'MM' above PCM, Auto Gai, or Bass Boo, but it doesn't have any effect on the lack of sound from the USB speakers.
Here's what amixer has to say about the USB audio:
> amixer -c1 Simple mixer control 'Bass',0 Capabilities: volume volume-joined Playback channels: Mono Limits: 0 - 48 Mono: 48 [100%] Simple mixer control 'Bass Boost',0 Capabilities: pswitch pswitch-joined Playback channels: Mono Mono: Playback [on] Simple mixer control 'Treble',0 Capabilities: volume volume-joined Playback channels: Mono Limits: 0 - 48 Mono: 48 [100%] Simple mixer control 'PCM',0 Capabilities: pvolume pswitch pswitch-joined Playback channels: Front Left - Front Right Limits: Playback 0 - 768 Front Left: Playback 768 [100%] [on] Front Right: Playback 768 [100%] [on] Simple mixer control 'Auto Gain Control',0 Capabilities: pswitch pswitch-joined Playback channels: Mono Mono: Playback [on]
Might I have to change any settings on the laptop's internal audio, or disable it completely, for USB audio to work? Do I have to tell XMMS and KDE and other apps to play through card 1 (USB) instead of card 0 (internal), or will ALSA always try to play all audio through all available sound cards?
