Then check if all sound levels are muted (alsamixer).
Check if your modprobe.conf are similar to this one:
############################################# alias char-major-14 soundcore
alias char-major-116 snd alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss alias snd-card-0 snd-intel8x0 alias sound-slot-0 snd-intel8x0 alias /dev/mixer snd-mixer-oss alias /dev/dsp snd-pcm-oss alias /dev/midi snd-seq-oss #############################################
If your modules.conf from 2.4.X kernel was working good, use generate-modprobe.conf script from module-init-tools package (needen by 2.6.X kernels).

Hey everyone, I have huge problems getting my nForce2 chipset to produce any sound. Got an NF7-S board from Abit and run kernel 2.6.5. I tried with the kernel-built-in-drivers (1.0.3 I think) and with 1.0.4. I remember trying with 0.9.8 or something as well back a while but I never got ANY sound out of this box. Neither on the SPDIF nor on the headphone jacks. I also tried different combinations of alsa-libs with the kernel alsa drivers but had no luck there either. The sounds ARE unmuted and I tried a couple of asound.conf settings with absolutely no luck. I don't even get error messages... not whne loading the intel8x0 and related modules and neither when playing the sounds. Sound works fine in windows, so it can't be a hardware problem. Does anyone have any suggestions? Been sitting on this for months now and still no success... Cheers Chris
