I can't figure out for the life of me what is wrong with my SuSE 9.0 install, I have not been able to get sound at all ever since I installed it 2 months ago. I do get sound in Windows, and sound was working fine in RedHat (my previous linux distro). I have a Sound Blaster Live!, my kernel is 2.4.21, alsa is 1.0.4
The drivers appear to be working fine: >From /var/log/boot.msg- Starting sound driver: snd-emu10k1 done >From lsmod (trimmed for relevancy): Module Size Used by Tainted: P snd-pcm-oss 39012 0 (autoclean) snd-mixer-oss 13464 0 (autoclean) [snd-pcm-oss] snd-seq-oss 27104 0 (autoclean) snd-seq-midi 3712 0 (unused) snd-emu10k1-synth 4828 0 snd-emux-synth 28028 0 [snd-emu10k1-synth] snd-seq-virmidi 3096 0 [snd-emux-synth] snd-seq-midi-event 3840 0 [snd-seq-oss snd-seq-midi snd-seq-virmidi] snd-seq-midi-emul 5120 0 [snd-emux-synth] snd-seq 36080 3 [snd-seq-oss snd-seq-midi snd-emux-synth snd-seq-virmidi snd-seq-midi-event snd-seq-midi-emul] snd-emu10k1 74532 4 [snd-emu10k1-synth] snd-util-mem 1376 0 [snd-emux-synth snd-emu10k1] snd-pcm 62692 0 [snd-pcm-oss snd-emu10k1] snd-timer 14620 0 [snd-seq snd-pcm] snd-ac97-codec 49980 0 [snd-emu10k1] snd-rawmidi 13920 0 [snd-seq-midi snd-seq-virmidi snd-emu10k1] snd-seq-device 4144 0 [snd-seq-oss snd-seq-midi snd-emu10k1-synth snd-emux-synth snd-seq snd-emu10k1 snd-rawmidi] snd-hwdep 4576 0 [snd-emux-synth snd-emu10k1] snd 33828 4 [snd-pcm-oss snd-mixer-oss snd-seq-oss snd-seq-midi snd-emux-synth snd-seq-virmidi snd-seq-midi-event snd-seq snd-emu10k1 snd-util-mem snd-pcm snd-timer snd-ac97-codec snd-rawmidi snd-seq-device snd-hwdep] soundcore 3940 0 [snd] snd-page-alloc 6388 0 [snd-emu10k1 snd-pcm] I have adjusted the mutes/volumes in various mixers. All my sound apps play happily with no errors. Example: aplay goodidea.wav Playing WAVE 'goodidea.wav' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 11000 Hz, Mono What am I missing?? On the advice of another wise linux user, I burned a Knoppix CD and booted to that, and sound works fine. I'm almost positive its not the drivers, and think its something funky in alsa. But I could be wrong. Thanks in advance for any sage advice. -jake ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: The Robotic Monkeys at ThinkGeek For a limited time only, get FREE Ground shipping on all orders of $35 or more.
