Hi!
I'm net entirely sure if this my problem can be solved with tweaking
alsa, so please direct me elsewhere if not.
What I have is this:
- Via EPIA Board w/ VIA VT 8233/A/8253/8273 AC97 Audio Controller
- FC4
- alsa-lib 1.0.10-3 and alsa-utils 1.0.10-1 from rpm
- a HW Dolby Digital decoder attached to the card via optical sp/dif
What I want:
- use mplayer to play back (e.g.) stereo mp3s and videos, adding
rear, center and sub channels in the process (works)
- get that output as a DD AC3 stream through the SP/DIF to the
decoder/amp.
I can play back correctly encoded AC3 audio all right (e.g. DVDs and
avis with AC3 sound), but I have found no way to generate an AC3
stream on-the-fly from the 5.1 channels that the card (and alsa)
provide.
