I've read several posts that indicate it might be very tough (or impossible)
to get 2 sounds cards to play nice together. Best is to just disable your
build-in one (maybe in BIOS).

alsamixer should allow you to pan audio from a channel (single input)
across L/R headset.

The alsamixer manpage has this:
     [Q | W | E ] -- turn UP [ left | both | right ]
     [Z | X | C ] -- turn DOWN [ left | both | right ]

As far as one "showing up as stereo" ... I looked in the output
of your "amixer -c 1" command you showed in the previous
post. I see no indication of stereo.... maybe I missed it?
.. I DO see several indications of mono.

I don't know your level of knowledge, and sometimes even the
best of us overlook the simplest things... but I feel I should make
sure you do know that the meaning of a "stereo" sound is a sound
that has two (usually at least slightly different) signals/channels.
One is normally panned fully to the left and the other usually panned
fully to the right. For the most part they usually sound very similar so
you get the sense of the same sound coming in to both ears
(but that's an illusion).
A "mono" sound is just one signal/channel. It sounds funny (bad) if
it's panned fully to the left or right, so normally it's panned to the center.
This way you're still hearing just one signal, but it's going half and half
in to both ears.

If you already knew all that, perhaps it can help someone else :)

At any rate... try alsamixer with the panning tips above and see
if that works out for ya.
