Dear Friends,

I'm new user of Linux. I recently installed FC3 on my system. I installed
FC3 because with FC4, my system used to get hanged in the very beginning of
boot process of installation. I have SATA hard disk and I feel may be
because of that.
Well, FC3 is working fine. Only thing is that my hard disk is now
recognized as "sda" instead of "hda". I have Intel 915 GAV motherboard. The
the version of kernel installed on my system is 2.6.9-1.667smp.

Now the probelem is that the sound card is not working. I tried installing
alsa-packages but as I'm novice, I think I could not installed it properly.
On running 'alsamixer' command, I get this error messgae:

alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such file or
directory

I don't know how to fix it. Can you please help me?

Further, a question that coming into my mind is that given so many versions
of alsa-driver, alsa-lib and alsa-utils, which one is compatible with my
kernel (2.6.9-1.667smp).

An early reply is highly solicited.

Regards
Praveen
