Hello again,

Sorry for all the nerving reports and the generated traffic :-/

Seems I've been euphoric, today I updates my Fedora-Core4 system via
yum with the latest available (stable) updates, including kernel
"2.6.16-1.2069_FC4".
As soon as I try use an application that wants to access the sound
device through alsa or oss I get the usual syslog messages:
codec_read 0: semaphore is not ready for register 0x2c
codec_read 0: semaphore is not ready for register 0x3a
codec_write 0: semaphore is not ready for register 0x2a
codec_write 0: semaphore is not ready for register 0x2a

I have no ideas where this problems lays in, nor why it works with the
bootable linux live cd.
Any ideas what could cause these stuff?

Any help will be appriciated, thank you in advance, lg Clemens

Btw. I first thought maybe fedora does some strange module
configuration but even after uncommeting the follong lines in
modprobe.conf I don't get any sound:
(this are all sound related lines in modprobe.conf)
alias snd-card-0 snd-intel8x0
#options snd-card-0 index=0
#options snd-intel8x0 index=0
#remove snd-intel8x0 { /usr/sbin/alsactl store 0 >/dev/null 2>&1 || :
; }; /sbin/modprobe -r --ignore-remove snd-intel8x0
