ALSA lib pcm.c:6648:(snd_pcm_slave_conf) Unknown field
variable_buffer_size
Something is not installed correctly. What is the output of:
grep -rI variable_buffer /usr/share/alsa/
?
/usr/share/alsa/pcm/dmix.conf: variable_buffer_size {
/usr/share/alsa/pcm/dmix.conf: name
defaults.pcm.dmix_variable_buffer
/usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf:defaults.pcm.dmix_variable_buffer true
Are you sure the OSS driver is not loaded for your card?
How can I check this?? I'm using SuSE 10.0...
Never mind, this is an alsa-lib bug. I'm having the exact same problem
and I can't figure it out - it looks like it should work. You'll have
to wait for a fix.
It's no bug just a syntarx error in my post.
Move variable_buffer_size out of pcm.slave block, or simply remove
that line.

Hi
I hadn't so much time the last days but now I finally tested it, and it
works nearly...
I can use it with using plug:dmix51 as device. For example I can watch
TV with xine and at the same time playing a song with alsaplayer
-Dplug:dmix51.
At xine I'm using plug:dmix51 for
audio.device.alsa_default_device
audio.device.alsa_front_device
audio.device.alsa_surround40_device
audio.device.alsa_surround51_device
And it is upmixing :-)
But the Center-Box is stuttering a lot, and if I want to play a
5.1-movie, xine says that the audio-devace isn't accessable... Can't I
use real 5.1-sound if I use upmix??
Another thing is that setting it to default with
pcm.pdmix {
type plug
slave.pcm "dmix51"
}
pcm.!defalut "pdmix"
doesn't work. if I use default in xine it isn't upmixing :-(
And my last question: What I have to use for
audio.device.alsa_mixer_name in xine for changing the volume with xine??
Please help me!
