Hi
Had a system running with 2.6.15/alsa and mpd, arts and everything
working perfectly.

Upgraded my debian kernel to 2.6.16, and then suddenly, when logging in
to kde, received arts error message that it couldn't open the sound
device, and was going to use the null output device. of course mpd
stopped working also.

I simply ran alsaconf and then mpd worked again.

But now even running alsaconf can not resolve the problem.

running alsaplayer:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/usr/lib/alsaplayer/output$ alsaplayer -o alsa
/home/flavio/ogg/Elliott\ Murphy/Live\ at\ Hot\ Point/Elliott\ Murphy\
-\ 01\ -\ You\ never\ know\ what\ you\'re\ in\ for.ogg
/usr/lib/alsaplayer/output/libalsa_out.so: symbol
snd_pcm_hw_params_set_periods_near, version ALSA_0.9.0rc4 not defined in
file libasound.so.2 with link time reference

I could not find a suitable output module on your
system. Make sure they're in "/usr/lib/alsaplayer/output/".
Use the -o parameter to select one.

Failed to load output plugin "alsa". Trying defaults.
/usr/lib/alsaplayer/output/libalsa_out.so: symbol
snd_pcm_hw_params_set_periods_near, version ALSA_0.9.0rc4 not defined in
file libasound.so.2 with link time reference

NOTE: THIS IS THE NULL PLUGIN. YOU WILL NOT HEAR SOUND!!

I thought I had alsa-1.0.11 and not 0.9.0 or something

When I run artsd, I get
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/mnt/X$ artsd
Segmenation fault

When I run artsd -a oss, it works but prints:
unix_connect: can't connect to server
(unix:/tmp/ksocket-flavio1QVPqU/localhost-309e-4479d46b)
unix_connect: can't connect to server
(unix:/tmp/ksocket-flavio1QVPqU/localhost-3033-4479c9a2)
There are already artsd objects registered, looking if they are active...
... cleaned 5 unused mcop global references.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Flavio
