[Alsa-user] Need basic assistance with onboard sound and multiple sound streams...

I've used a SoundBlaster Live for a long time under linux.  Apparantly I've been spoiled by the SB Live's hardware mixing ability; I can't get the on-board Nforce3 (snd_intel8x0) to mix multiple sound streams.

What can I realistically expect from Alsa?  Can I expect to have gaim, XMMS, and VMWare all play sounds simultaneous to the onboard sound?
