The basic problem is that we need someone to write a hardware specific
mixer app for emu10k1 based cards.  All the other complex chipsets have
one (envy24control, hdspmixer, etc).  The ALSA mixer API was designed to
handle simple devices.

However developing a hardware specific mixer app for emu10k1 is likely
to be very frustrating as we do not have full hardware specs.
