Hi, I have got a Terratec Aureon 5.1 USB MKII device. I managed to make xine work with "pass through" as well as "surround 5.1".
As my HTPC and amplifier is stored away, I control everything via WLAN, HTML interface and a PDA. Thus I do not have the chance to control the amplifier's volume. I only can alter alsa's mixer settings. For the analog output of the sound device this works well. For the digital output there is no volume control out of more or less obvious reasons. If I use xine in "pass though" mode it is understood that I can not apply any volume control. However if I use "surround 5.1" raw digital data is sent to the device. I wonder if alsa is able to apply a digital volume control to this stream. If it is possible, would some kind soul tell me how? Another problem is audio playback via mplayer. This will only deliver sound to the front speakes. Can I tell alsa to emulate surround 5.1?
