For some reason alsa doesn't seem to work correctly with some apps or not at all with others unless I run as root. I checked permissions in /dev/ and everything looks ok.
winecfg for example yields the following error messages... ALSA lib control.c:910:(snd_ctl_open_noupdate) Invalid CTL default:0 ALSA lib control.c:910:(snd_ctl_open_noupdate) Invalid CTL hw:0 ALSA lib pcm.c:2143:(snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown PCM hw:0,0 ALSA lib pcm.c:2143:(snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown PCM hw:0,0 ALSA lib seq.c:936:(snd_seq_open_noupdate) Unknown SEQ default alsa doesn't work at all in wine, however if I run as root it works like a champ!
