Hi, I have Suse 10.1 with recent updates -- my YaST HW info shows I
have the ALSA 1.0.13 (stable) release, and I am having problems with
this sound card -- when playing back WAV files through ALSAplayer
(after starting Jack with "jackd -R -dalsa -r44100 -p1024" I get very
garbled (and loud) audio.

Although I can playback a WAV file by Amarok just fine...

How do I update my system via Suse YaST to install the development
ALSA packages or do I need to install this manually per
http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/doc-php/template.php?company=Intel&card=ICH+southbridge+HD-audio+and+modem.&chip=ICH6%2C+ICH6M%2C+ICH7%2C+ESB2&module=hda-intel

I see in the "changes" doc that the 1.0.14rc1/2 releases have several
fixes for the HDA Intel chip.

# lsmod | grep -i intel
snd_hda_intel 21652 0
snd_hda_codec 139136 1 snd_hda_intel
snd_pcm 86532 3 snd_pcm_oss,snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec
snd 56708 11
snd_rtctimer,snd_seq_dummy,snd_pcm_oss,snd_mixer_oss,snd_seq,snd_seq_device,snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec,snd_pcm,snd_timer
snd_page_alloc 13576 2 snd_hda_intel,snd_pcm
intel_agp 24988 1
agpgart 33352 1 intel_agp

Thanks alot,
Ronan
