Hi Daniel,
I got everything on the SigmaTel CXD9872AKD to work (internal/external mic,
internal speakers & headphones with proper muting of internal speakers when
headphones are plugged in) using the following in alsa-base:
options snd-hda-intel probe_mask=1 model=vaio
Choose HDA Intel (Alsa mixer) in the audio control panel. If you use Skype, the
following settings work fine for me;
Sound In: HDA Intel (hw:intel,0)
Sound out: Pulse
Ringing: Pulse
Still working on the SPDIF & HDMI part. Any tips for geting the webcam working
is appreciated ;)

Same situation for me on my VGN-AR71S (same sound-hardware AFAIK, no
TUNER built in) with alsa 1.0.19. The output of alsa-info.sh can be

I didn't test HDMI output. The most annoying things for me are the
non-working MIC and the HEADPHONE plug detection. I would be glad to
help with any informations needed to get this working.

Hi, I'm yet another newcomer to Linux in need of help...
I can't get the following to function on my Vaio VGN-AR51SU (PCG-8Z1M) under
Ubuntu 8.10;
Microphone, internal &/or external (jack).
SPDIF.
HDMI audio.
Internal speakers function well with no model specific option chosen in
alsa.base.
Mixer has controls for all devices (Volume, mic, line in,
cd, pcm, etc.)
Mic/recording devices do not function, headphone jack
works (sound in headphones), but does not mute internal speakers.
Using the model=vaio option in alsa.base results in proper function of
the headphone jack.
Using this option however results in the loss of
all volume controls in the mixer, except "master"(pulse audio, (only mixer
available with this option active)).
Using the model=vaio-ar option results in the TV tuner (SAA7131/7133/7135)
and ALC262 to become the only available sound devices, (hda-intel disappears).
No functioning sound using either choice of device with
this option. again only "master" ctrl in mixer.
I have had mixed but no satisfactory results using other model=xx options for
laptops with same/similar audio devices.
Currently running alsa 1.0.1.17. From what I have been able to glean from the
web, later versions (1.0.1.19) does not fix this so I have not upgraded.

The laptop originally came with Win-Vista.
Original Vista driver for ALC262 was Realtek high definition audio codec
(optical spdif)
Original Vista driver for other sound devices (speakers, mic & hdmi) Sigmatel
high definition audio codec.
Original setup (Vista) does not allow for simultaneous output from
spdif, hdmi, and all other audio. It does however allow for switching between
the three.
If I could get all audio devices working that would be WONDERFUL.
Truth be told, I'll be more than happy to settle for geting the internal mic
functioning as I really need (read want) to be able to scype my wife when I am
abroad.
I'm not sure what info you need, but this seems to be what most are providing;
