i was basically just looking for verification that the m-audio 2496 card
would suit my needs.

you are mistaken, and i did not intend to get into this argument. let's
stay on topic.  there are hi-fi vinyls that contain higher frequencies,
while the ear may not be able to hear it, other senses are able to
perceive a difference.

as mark c mentions, it is favorable to maximize the digital snapshot.
