I have a similar chip to you. Audio works for me, and I can pass on any
stuff needed, I have pcm outputs. I have no microphone - alsamixer shows red
writing and no level for the mic :-/. I did discover this little bit in the
wiki and am going off to experiment

 'model' parameter

Sometimes the support for your system (or a similar one) is available on the
driver, but the right system model wasn't detected by the driver. You can
try different values for the model parameter for the snd-hda-intel module
and see if some of them fix your problem. If this works, please report this
problem, providing the relevant
information<http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Help_To_Debug_Intel_HDA#Reporting_problems>.

(TODO: how users can know valid values for the model parameter?)

We have an AMD sb600 or at least sbx00 series chip, each of us, with
problems, and a stupid brand name in the firmware (Asus in your case,
Hewlett Packard in mine)
