I retested with kernel 3.9.9 on Fedora 19, it's still largely unusable.
Optical output works (it didnt back to 3.7+ kernel) but the sound is still mostly corrupted and with a big latency (more than a couple of seconds). Besides, any demanding application (flash) trying to play sound using optical output crash when starting to play sound. (I only get sound from the "test speakers" button from gnome shell sound config app). To me it looks like the driver does not get the info from the card and overwrite on some wrong buffer location, but I'm not expert in sound card. I didn't get any analog output working from the pod or the connectors on the Phoebus. It's probably because of some internal routing, I'll need to test using hda_ tool but I suspect the sound won't be any better (I expect analog to be similar to digital output).
