Melanie Matthews (Surrey, BC) scored tworuns to improve Canadas record to 3-0 on the Pro Tour, extending fromJune 13-29. If the first inning had been any indication of howthe game was to unfold, Canada might not have been so fortunate to escape witha victory. Thankfully, the homerun by the Bandits Stacy May onCanadas first pitch of the game was the only run the team would allowits opponent for the remainder of the day. In an effort to pull ahead, Matthews sent one out ofthe park in the top of the third, while pitcher Danielle Lawrie (Langley, BC)frustrated the Bandits by throwing one strikeout after another. Though the Chicago squad rallied together, managingto earn two hits and steal a couple of bases, the Senior Womens NationalTeam put all doubts to rest in the sixth inning. After drawing a walk andstealing second base, Matthews was sent home on a drive to centre field byJennifer Salling (Port Coquitlam, BC). Immediately after the score advanced to2-1 in Canadas favour, Sheena Lawrick (Calgary, BC) recorded an RBI,where Jennifer Yee (North Delta, BC) earned the third and final run of theafternoon. At the end of seven innings, Lawrie was creditedwith an outstanding ten strikeouts and only two hits to earn the win.
