Subject: Media Release - 15th Canada Cup International Women's Fastpitch Tournament - July 12 - 20 Its Countdown to the 15th Canada Cup (Happening July 12 20, 2008) (Surrey, B.C. Canada) Many of the best teams in the world are about to take centre stage at one of the best tournaments in the world, July 12 20 at Softball City, Surrey, BC. Its the 15th edition of the Canada Cup where 14 teams are expected to compete, including five of the eight teams qualified for the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, China. Its a grand slam tournament lineup once again with four tournaments being part of the 2008 Canada Cup schedule. Up to 75 teams from many parts of the world will be coming to B.C. to take part in this softball extravaganza. This years tournament includes, not only the 15th Canada Cup International Womens Fastpitch Tournament, but also the 7th Canada Cup International Fastpitch Futures Tournament World Junior Womens presented by MVP Athletic Supplies, the 4th Canada Cup 16 and Under Fastpitch Showcase Tournament and returning for the 11th time, the Canada Cup Special Olympics Friendship Division Tournament. This years Canada Cup International Womens Fastpitch Tournament running July 12 20 at Softball City (2201 148th St.) in Surrey will feature 14 teams vying for supremacy including Olympic bound teams from Australia, Canada, Chinese Taipei, Japan, and Venezuela. Up to 33 teams are expected to compete in the Futures Tournament, with play slated July 14 - 20 at Softball City, Cloverdale Athletic Park (64th Ave and 168th St.) and Sullivan Park (152nd and 62nd), all in Surrey. The 2008 Canada Cup 16 & Under Fastpitch Showcase Tournament is scheduled July 14 20 at Softball City, Cloverdale Athletic Park and Sullivan Park. Up to 22 teams are expected to compete in this event. The Canada Cup Special Olympics Friendship Division Tournament takes place July 17 20 with six teams currently scheduled. The Canada Cup was started by chair Glen Todd in 1993 as an international womens fastpitch developmental tournament to help the Canadian national team prepare for top-level international competition. Teams now regard the Canada Cup as one of the premier competitive tournaments in the world.
