FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 21, 2008 Team Canada wins its fifth game of ProTour 9-2 (Rockford, IL) Having already won five of sixgames on the Pro Tour, the Senior Womens National Team managed to maintainmomentum last night by claiming a 9-2 victory over the Rockford Thunder. The Rockford team was reluctant to give up anothergame to the Senior Womens squad, but were left no choice as Canada gained anearly 3-0 lead. Jennifer Salling (Port Coquitlam, BC) started the tally whenshe got a homerun in the top of the first inning, also batting in Jennifer Yee(North Delta, BC). Soon thereafter, in the second inning of play, KaleighRafter (Guelph, ON) recorded a run when Noémie Marin(Acton-Vale, QC) singled then advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Despite the consistent arm of starting pitcher Robin Mackin (Newmarket, ON), Rockfords Tonya Callahan registered a homerun, while her teammate Shanna Diller also scored in the bottom of the second inning. Neither team would score again in the third or fourth innings. A sacrifice bunt by Melanie Matthews (Surrey, BC) in the fifth inning advanced Marin to second base, from which point she was batted in by Erin McLean (Whitby, ON). Eventually, McLean would also register a run for her team. An already frustrated Rockford Thunder roster became even more distressed when in the final inning, Canadas Matthews, Yee, McLean and Kristy Odamura (Richmond, BC) added four more runs, closing out the game with a 9-2 victory. Danielle Lawrie (Langley, BC), who replaced Mackin in the fifth inning, pitched a nearly perfect three innings with zero runs and five strikeouts for nine at bats. Game three of the ongoing series between Team Canada and the Rockford Thunder will take place tonight, June 21st, 2008 at 5:35p.m. CDT at Players Park in Roscoe, IL.
