Subject: Canada blanks Akron 3-0 in third series of Pro Tour -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Part Number: 3 Part Type: HTML -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FORIMMEDIATE RELEASE June26, 2008 Canadablanks Akron 3-0 in third series of Pro Tour (Akron,OH) Not even a two day break from competition could slow down theSenior Womens National Team, as the squad shut out the Akron Racers 3-0at Firestone Stadium last night. The no-hitter, which was the first of theseries between Canada and the Racers, showcased the skills of Jennifer Salling(Port Coquitlam, BC) who recorded a homerun and three RBIs. Pitcher,Lauren Bay Regula (Trail, BC) proved early on that she was in it for the win,when she struck out the first three Racers in the bottom of the first inningand added three more strikeouts to her total by the third. However,Canadas offensive players started off on a less enthusiastic note, onlyregistering a single hit, leaving the game scoreless for three innings. Fortunatelythe pace picked up by the fourth inning, when Salling homered right off thedraw, advancing the score to 1-0. Robin Mackin (Newmarket, ON) relieved Regulaof her pitching duties in the bottom of the fifth, but did not ease up on thecompetition. The duet would go on to strike out a combined 13 of 25 Akronbatters. Lookingto add some security to their lead, the red and white came out with fervor inthe final inning. Efforts paid off when Noémie Marin (Acton-Vale,QC) drew a walk, stole second and advanced to third on a grounder by MelanieMatthews (Surrey, BC). The second and third runs of the night came when Sallingconnected for a two-run double, batting in both Marin and Erin McLean (Whitby,ON).
