Subject: Canada_suffers_first_loss_at_Canada_Cup_/_Le_Canada_souffr FORIMMEDIATE RELEASE July20, 2008 Canadasuffers first loss at Canada Cup (Surrey,BC) - On playoff Saturday, Team Canada had its first loss of the week in thedouble knock out format and will take on Australia on Sunday afternoon foranother shot at Japan in the final of the 15th Annual Canada Cup. Inthe first versus second playoff game, Japan defeated Canada 6-0. costly error with two out in the third inning led to three runs for theJapanese team. Scoring three more runs in the sixth inning, Japan took a 6-0lead which was all they needed to beat the red and white. Sheena Lawrick(Calgary, AB) went two for three on the night and those were Canadas two onlyhits. Robin Mackin (Newmarket, ON) had the start for the Canadian team strikingout four Japanese batters and walking none, allowing three unearned runs infive innings. Katie Rosentreter (Winnipeg, MB) pitched the sixth inning. Today,Team Australia and Canada will face off at 1:30pm at Softball City to earn aspot in the final at 6:30 Sunday evening. Chinese Taipei and Venezuela finishedthe event fourth and fifth respectively.
