Subject: Rick McDonald Fastball semis/Northern Ontario Fastball Championships : -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- News bulletin from the North North Stars take stranglehold on series After both series being rained out last Thursday in Garson , the semis resumed on Monday night in Azilda at the Rick McDonald Memorial Spoirts Complex. In the opener at 7 PM , series "B " of the series between the Pickerel River Cardinals and the Garson Hounds finally got underway . It was a tight contest throughout as expected with both teams exchanging runs until late in the sixth and seventh when two costly fielding errors permitted the Hounds to take the first game of the best of five 5-3.Gary Lamothe was the winner while Jonathan Contin suffered the defeat. In the nightcap , the young Steeelers from the Whitefish Lake First Nation finally proved to the strong Dog House North Stars they wern't going away quietly.Until late in the match the Steelers held their own with a 4-2 lead behind the fine pitching of their second year youngster Troy Nootchtai but the veteran North Stars were not to be denied and scored 4 late runs to win 6-4.Randy Dennis`was the winner(2-0 for the playoffs)while Al Guenette (0-2) suffered the defeat in relief. Both series will resume Wednesday night in Whitefish when the North Stars could end their series and go on to the finals with a win over the Steelers.In the nightcap the Cardinals will try to even their series with a win over the Hounds. Men only in the Northerns The ladies division has been dropped from the Northerns because of lack of teams while 8 men's teams will face each other starting Friday night August the 15th at the Lorne Brady Memorial Park in Garson.
