In the opening game Dog House North Stars were facing the Sucker Creek Raiders. It was a tight contesrt throughout as some timely hitting and some costly errors made the difference . The North Stars led 2-0 for the first three innings until the Raiders came back to tie the contest at 2 in the fifth .Both teams exhanged each a run and the game ended 3-3 with no extra innings during the round robbin portion.The pitchers of decision were Randy Dennis for Dog House who went the distance giving up 3 earned runs , 13 hits and fanning 4 Raider hitters. Aaron "Sixer" Owl also went the distance giving up only one earned run , 7 hits and striking out 12 North Star hitters.Had it not been for two costly errors in the middle frame the Raiders could of squeaked out a victory.Joel Belanger went 2 for 3 (double ,solo home run) for Dog House while Stan Esq hit 2 for 3 for the Raiders. In the nightcap the Steelers from Whitesfish Lake First Nation were facing the Native Sons from Magnatewan .No result yet. Action will now resume Saturday morning on two fields with games starting at 9 AM with the last contest at 5 PM. There has been a change of times for the playoff run on Sunday .One semi will be at 10 AM the other at 12 Noon while the championship final goes at 2 PM. Garson Hounds & Sagamok River Dawgs start play Saturday In the Rick McDonald Memorial Fastball League , the series "B" semi final besr of five affair will resume on Wednesday August the 20th in Whitefish with the Garson Hounds leading the series 2-1 against the Pickerel River Cardinals. The deadline for entry into the All Ontario Native Fastball Tournament is this coming Monday August the 18th . At the present time there are 22 teams confirmed that being 14 men , 4 ladies and 4 seniors. Finalization and team names` will be announced this coming Tuesday August the 19th. Results in minor girls fastball (three different age groups) 14-15 ; 15-16 and 17 and up will be up coming late Saturday following exhibition games against North Bay squads at the Delki Dozzi Sports Complex .The teams`will be travelling to Southern Ontario on the weekend of August 22 to 24th for the provincial championships. Three devoted coaches in the names of Junior Ilnitski , Micky Chartrand and Dan Mayer will be joining them. The 3rd annual All-Star classic for men's fastball has been set this year for Saturday September the 13th in Elliot Lake at 7 PM . The game will pit the all-stars from the Rick McDonald Memorial Fastball League vs the North Shore All-Stars . The Rick McDonald Memorial Fastball All-Stars`are two time defending champions having won both by one run : 7-6 in 2006 at the Terry Fox Sports Complex and 8-7 in 2007 at the Hanmer ball field.
