Subject: Ladies' provincials NO WINS BUT FULFILLING EXPERIENCE!!! On the weekend of August 22nd to 24th three young fastpitch teams of ladies headed to Southern Ontario for the provincials in Novice ,Bantam and Midget . None of the three teams came away with victories but certainly gained a tonne of experience and thoroughly enjoyed themselves and also gained new friends along the way. This is the second year that the Greater City of Sudbury sends teams down South to participate in provincials. For these first two years its been at the house league level but Micky Chartrand expects to bring up the teams in the competitive section for 2009. In the Novice division(ages 13 and 14) played out of Burlington the Sudbury squad called the Cambrian Novice Dragons came away with 1 tie and two losses. In the opener they played to 3-3 against Vaughn where Cammi Bergeron pitched a three hitter-the team as a whole played great defense. In their second match they were in tough against Orleans near Ottawa losing 8-3.Jessica Honse pitched well in a losing cause Sherri Lalonde and Jessica Honse each had two hits.In their third and last game Etobicoke won 7-2 (this team eventually won the silver medal). The Dragons had only one bad inning where they gave up 4 runs to the silver medalists. Its important to mention that young Jayde Jarvis (only 12 years old) caught all three games.Members of the Dragons other than those already mentioned are : Isabelle Giroux,Gabby Potvin,Sherry Lalonde,Jennifer Lamb,Patricia Brennan,Maxi Desilier and Margie Tellier. The coach was Micky Chartrand and the manager John Honse. The medalits in this division out of Burlington were Brampton-Gold;Etobicoke-Silver and Whitby Lightning-Bronze.twelve teams from across the province took part in the Novice division and that were placed in three pools of four teams for the preliminary round.there are attached photos from this Novice division-all from the Dragons. In the Bantam division (15 and 16 year old) the Sudbury Select team also did not register one victory in Newmarket Ontario. In the opener Seaway Selects shut down the Sudbury girls 10-0 where Chloe Ilnitski went the distance for Sudbury.seaway eventually took the Gold medal.Chatam trounced Sudbury 20-4 in the second match and the girls held their own in losing 17-9 to Brantford in their final contest. The girls were happy with their tournament and gained a lot of experience . The other members of the team were : Holly Rainsberry ,Tella Arseneau,Jennifer Roy,Karly Milne, Emma Meunier,Meghan Landriault,Maxime Mayotte,April McCullagh and Lauren Page. They were coached by Bob Rainsberry , Jesse St Cyr and Ghislain Mayotte.Sixteen teams were part of he Bantam division seperated into four pools of four teams. In the midget division(ages 17 and up) played out of Guelph the Sudbury squad called Sudbury AutoBuff/Lopes Mechanical did not win any of their four games ..They held their own in the first two losses but were mercied in the final two falling behind seven runs after five innings. Jill Zinn pitched well and hit one home run during the weekend as well as Tiffany Martin hitting a home run.The other members of the team were Danielle Hrechka,Danielle Marier,Donna McLaughlin,Brogan Roy,Maxime Rainville,Cassandra McGrath,Dominique Potvin,Tracy Smith and Kelly Carmichael.
