Commonwealth Championship moves through to playoffs Saturday January 28th 2006 Continued heavy rain has seen the last three round robin games scheduled to be played in the Commonwealth Championship in Melbourne today abandoned and the tournament now moves on to the playoffs stage. The world champion New Zealand Community Trust Black Sox are the top seed in the top four play off series given their unbeaten record in round robin play. Samoa is ranked second followed by the home side Australia and South Africa. Given their top two rankings the NZCT Black Sox and Samoa will play off tonight at 8.30pm (NZ time) weather permitting. The winner of this game with take direct entry through to the final tomorrow at 8.30pm (New Zealand time). In other play off games Australia and South Africa will face off in winner take all match. The looser of that game will drop out of the title race while the winner will go on the play the looser of the game between the NZCT Black Sox and Samoa for the right to go through to the final.
