FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 2, 2006 2006 International Softball Coaches Symposium (Ottawa) Softball Canada and Softball British Columbia are pleased to present the 2006 International Softball Coaches Symposium. This coaching development symposium conducted by Softball Canada in partnership with Softball British Columbia will take place from Friday, March 3rd to Sunday, March 5th in Richmond, British Columbia at the Best Western Richmond Hotel and Conference Centre. This two and a half day symposium is open to all local, provincial and national coaches and is designed to provide coaches with the most up-to-date training and instructional techniques presented by some of the world's leading international coaches and experts in order to raise the level of softball knowledge among softball coaches across Canada. Coaches are the key to any sport. One coach over their lifetime will come into contact with a high number of athletes and have a tremendous impact on those athletes lives. By providing coaches with the knowledge and resources they need to grow and learn, we will ensure that softball athletes across Canada can reach their potential whether it be to compete in the Olympics or to enjoy softball for a lifetime, said Lise Jubinville, Program Director of Coaching and Domestic Programs at Softball Canada. We are thrilled to partner with Softball British Columbia in providing this great educational opportunity, stated Bob Turner, Softball Canadas Coaching Development Committee Chair. The speakers we have brought in are some of the best in the world and having the opportunity to learn from their experiences and ask them questions will have an enormous impact on our coaches. The symposium will feature guest speakers such as Dr. Ken Ravizza, Professor at California State University (at Fullerton) and Sport psychology consultant for the USA Womens Olympic Gold Medal softball team and Anaheim Angels, as well as other Olympic teams and athletes; Cindy Bristow, owner of Softball Experience and former International Softball Federation (ISF) Director of Development; Mark Smith, Canada's senior men's National Team head coach; Dr. Joy Butler from the University of British Columbia; Sandra Friedman and Dave Paetkau, former senior men's National Team athlete. Softball Canada has confirmed registration from 93 coaches from across Canada who will be participating in this event. Last minute registrations are still being accepted. Registration is $150 and includes instruction from the world's top coaches, a Conference registration package with handouts, entry into daily random draws, a golf shirt and portfolio.
