-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Finalists found as men's national club champs Saturday March 25th 2006 Parklands Christchurch United and Hutt City United will meet in the finalof the New Zealand Community Trust MenĂ½s National Club Championships atAkina Park, Hastings tomorrow afternoon on the back of a run of victoriesin the top eight playoffs today. PCU have gone through their section of top eight playoff games unbeatenrecording a tight 1-0 win over Metro, defeating Rotorua Magic 4-3 andbeating Northcote 8-3 on Friday night. PCU have suffered just one loss in the tournament and that came on theopening day of round robin play when they were beaten by the defendingchampions Mt Albert Ramblers. After earlier wins over Metro and Northcote PCU cemented their final spotwith a 4-3 win over the surprise package of the tournament Rotorua Magic.PCU had to rely on a late fight back to win the game with the winning runcoming in the bottom of the seventh inning when Brad Annanadale scamperedhome on a hit by Paul Delatour. HCU have been convincing in their lead up to the final and are yet totaste defeat in the tournament. In the top eight playoffs HCU beatMiramar 3-1, Richmond Keas 5-1 and then clinched the final spot with atight 1-0 win over Ramblers. The key win today for HCU came against the defending champions Ramblersas they came out on top by just 1-0. The only run of the game camein the third inning when Chris Telfer picked up a safe hit and scored ona single by Brad Baker. In a tight game it was one dominated by the pitchers as the traditionallypowerful batting line ups from both sides struggled to get on top. Forthe victorious HCU side Jeremy Manly was on the mound, he faced 26batters giving up five hits while taking 13 strikeouts. For RamblersThomas Cameron did the pitching he faced 25 batters giving up five hitsand taking four strikeouts. PCU and HCU will meet in the final at 3pm tomorrow afternoon. Looking atthe two sides on paper they are hard to separate with both havinginternational class pitcher to call on in the form of Jeremy Manly forHCU and Michael Gaiger for PCU. Both teams also have plenty of hittingdepth so the final should be a very tight affair.
