-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Black Sox power past opposition in warm up games Sunday April 30th 2006 It has been a weekend of victories for the New Zealand Community TrustBlack Sox as they have taken to the softball diamonds of Fukushima, Japanin the opening exchanges of their tour. The world champion NZCT Black Sox team only arrived in Japan on Fridaybut they were straight into their work yesterday picking up a 9-1 victoryover Japan Under 23 and then backed that up with a further three winstoday. Highlights of the opening game of the tour on Saturday against JapanUnder 23 were the NZCT Black Sox debut of Hutt Valley outfielder MalcolmNamana who picked up two hits from three at bats, also standing out inthe 9-1 Kiwi victory was Travis Wilson who smashed a huge home run into astrong head wind. In the games played today the NZCT Black Sox opened up with another winover Japan Under 23 this time by an 8-1 score line. Young Hutt Valleypitcher Regan Manley made his debut for the NZCT Black Sox as he startedthe game on the mound. Manley faced 16 batters giving up just one hit andone run while taking five strike outs. Manley was replaced on the mound in the fifth inning by NZCT Black Soxcaptain Jarrad Martin who faced 13 batters and gave up no hits whiletaking two strike outs. With the bat both Travis Wilson and Daniel Milne picked up home runs inthe game while Brad Rona recorded three hits from four at bats and ThomasMakea registered two hits from three at bats. In game two today the NZCT Black Sox took on a local Fukushima Selectionside and were untroubled coming out victors 6-0. This game was dominated by pitcher Jeremy Manley brother of Regan. Jeremywas in strong form on the mound as he gave the selection side no chances.Jeremy pitched the full game facing 29 batters and taking 15 strike outswhile giving up just three hits. While Jeremy was impressive on the mound he was backed up by the powerhitting NZCT Black Sox with Nathan Nukunuku, Jarrad Martin and Brad Ronaall recording home runs in the game. The NZCT Black Sox continued their winning form in the final game todayas they defeated the Japan Under 23 once again this time by 8-3 in a fiveinning game. Power hitting set up the Kiwi win as once again the outfield fence wererattled with the NZCT Black Sox picking up four home runs in the game offthe bats of Patrick Shannon, Thomas Makea, Daniel Milne and MalcolmNamana. On the mound for the NZCT Black Sox Thomas Cameron started the game andfaced 14 batters giving up four hits and three runs while taking fourstrike outs. Michael Gaiger replaced Cameron on the mound in the fourthinning and faced seven batters taking four strike outs. The games this weekend have been part of the warm up ahead of the PacificSeries which starts in Sendai on Wednesday May 3rd. The NZCT Black Sox gointo the four day series as the defending champions and will be lookingto retain that title when they take on Australia, Samoa and the home sideJapan in a double round robin before the play off games on Saturday May6th.
