Subject: Crunch Hold Off Busmen -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bluewater Fastball League at Duncan McLellan Park, Owen Sound, Ontario Scenic City Automotive Crunch 4 Wiarton Tom Norris Busmen 3 The Busmen grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning. Catcher Jim Fries, aboard on a fielder's choice, managed to scamper all the way from first to home on a wild throw to first base giving the Busmen a 1-0 lead. Rob Thomas advanced to third base later in the inning and scored on a sacrifice fly from shortstop Kendrick Nicholson to give the Busmen a 2 run lead. The Crunch tied the game in the bottom of the 4th inning. Centrefielder Mike Majury singled, was sacrificed to second, moved to third on a Wiarton error and scored on a wild pitch to put the Crunch on the board. Troy Barfoot tied the score at 2, knocking in a run with a hard shot off Wiarton starter Shawn McCully's glove In the bottom of the 5th, the Crunch took the lead. Ken Kivell got on board with another Wiarton error, hustled towards third on a sacrifice bunt and scored when Wiarton tried to catch him moving into third base. Majury made it 4-2 Crunch when he got another single and scored on 2 more Wiarton errors. Overall, the Busmen made 6 errors in the game The Busmen closed the gap in the 7th when reliever Chris Mink slapped a double and scored on McCully's r.b.i. single. However, the Busmen couldn't get McCully home and the Crunch scored the victory. Perry Solomon went all the way for the Crunch in the win. Solomon was touched for 3 Busmen hits. McCully went 5 innings for the Busmen and gave up 4 hits. In relief, Mink did not give up a hit in his stint. Friday night, the Crunch and the Owen Sound Midget Selects will play a doubleheader starting at 7 pm at Duncan McLellan Park.
