Subject: Monkton 2006 - more updates... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Monkton, Ont. June 29 - July 2, 2006 "Whats happening in your town?....it looks so nice - the flowers, the flags, the bunting on houses and...." This was a question posed to me the day before yesterday while walking down the street on my way to the ballpark here in Monkton. You don't want me to re-type my long-winded reply, however I'm sure you all know the response. Yes, commuters, passers-by, visitors, friends, relatives of anyone in Monkton - can tell it's "Fastball Tourny" time again, as our streets are adorned in gorgeous hanging flower baskets on streetlight poles throughout town, as well as the now traditional Canadian flags draping too from telepohone and streetlamp poles along our major routes. The annual "Fastball/Canada Day Home Decorating Contest" is in full swing too. Homes and properties are judged just prior to the tourny to determine winners, has become a great source of attention and "friendly" competition among neighbours. All the aforementioned are the result of the "greatest week-end in fastball"!!! The town is abuzz once again - as preparations are taking shape at the complex. The ballpark looks immaculate! The grounds surrounding the park meticulously groomed with everything being put "in it's place" for the show. Also creating a stir, are the number of media - tv, radio, newspaper and journalists conducting interviews and doing stories - and even word of a possible film crew coming to town (more details to follow on this!..) The media attention were receiving is "tenfold" to that of previous years, most likley due to the fact that we are being broadcast live - across the region and around the world all week-end! Our local TV and radio : CKNX out of Wingham will be on-site doing interviews, news, hilights, events taking place - and of course - broadcasting the final live! For those of you who can't make it to the tourny, you can catch all the action live via the internet. Go to www.am920.ca to click and listen live!! More details on this in the next few days. While all of the above takes place, it is easy to lose focus of the real reason we're here: Fastball!! - and the World-Class players and teams who are once again vying for the now prestigious title. Two-time defending World Fastball Inv. Champs - and current World Champions - County Materials will be the focus of every teams attention, as they once again have assembled a star-studded roster in hopes of repeating both here, and in Kitchener in Aug. But to do so, they will have to knock off a number of VERY talented, and VERY capable teams in The Farm, Kitchener Hallman Twins, Orillia Riversharks, Patsy's, Heflin Builders, and Midland Explorers at both tourny's. More info. regarding line-ups and team details will follow in naother update in the next couple days. Of note, I need to mention to all those RV'ers, Campers etc. - in my last posting I had in-advertantly mentioned we would have "full service" sites available. I should have said full pumping services only, as we do not have electrical or water "hook-ups". My appolgies for the confusion. Thanks to the many who have booked their sites! Stay tuned for more updates and info every couples days from here...... and check out our website: www.monktonfastball.com * website does not reflect NEW game times for Friday!!!*** - sorry.
