Subject: Maddhaters Mens Tournament Grande Prairie -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bob McVey Grande Prairie,Alberta 780 539 5360 p 780 539 9742 f The Grande Prairie Pride had a good showing at the Madhatters Mens Fastpitch tournament on the weekend. The newly formed team, in only its second tournament of Senior Open competition finished 2nd after the round robin only to lose 11 4 to Calgary Cobras in the A division final. In the semi final they beat Camrose 10-2 after tying them 3-3 in the round robin. They also had a 7-0 win over Clear Prairie and a 3-2 loss to Calgary. The Madhatters Diamond Devils won the Intermediate Division final over Hay River but they did it the hard way. After taking a 6-0 lead in the first inning they found themselves going into extra innings with the score tied at 7-7. Then the visitors grabbed a 5 run lead in the top of the 8th. The Devils battled back a run at a time until Mike McVey hit a 2 out single to bring in winning run in a 13-12 victory. Joel Mayaard was the team work horse pitching the semi final and final for the Devils. The Midget Diggers needed a 7th inning comeback 5-4 win over Valleyview to clinch 3d in the roundrobin They then lost to Madhatters in the semi. The Diggers will be hosting Midget A provincials on July7-9 at the South Bear diamonds with teams coming from Calgary, Edmonton, Lloydminster and Onoway.
