Subject: Softball_Canada_-_Whitehorse,_Yukon_awarded_the_2008_ISF FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE August 31, 2006 Whitehorse, Yukon awarded the 2008 ISF Junior Mens World Championships (Ottawa, ON) - The International Softball Federation (ISF) announced today that the 2008 Junior Mens World Championships has been awarded to Whitehorse, Yukon. The event is scheduled from June 21 to June 29, 2008. The VII ISF Junior Men's World Championships in Whitehorse, Yukon will be the third Junior Men's World Championships hosted in Canada, the first in 1997 in St-John's, NFLD and the second in 2005 in Summerside, PEI where Canada won the Bronze on both occasions. We are delighted to have been awarded these Championships again stated Softball Canada C.E.O. Hugh Mitchener. Kevin Quinn, President of Softball Canada, Mark Smith, Head Coach of our Senior Mens team and myself visited Whitehorse earlier this year and were very impressed with Softball Yukons plan for hosting the event and with the Pepsi Softball Centre, where the games will be played. "Having this championship awarded to Whitehorse will have a definite impact on our Minor ball program as well as redefining the interest in Mens and Womens Fastball in the Yukon" said Robb Andison, President of Softball Yukon. "The Yukon is renowned as a World Class Destination" added Andison. "Softball Yukon will be thrilled to treat these athletes to some GREAT Yukon hospitality, as well as treating the people of the Yukon to some great Softball." The location of the event will make for a unique and memorable time for those participating. At the time of the event, in late June, Whitehorse sees daylight for 19 hours every day, eliminating the need for lights at the Pepsi Softball Centre. In other ISF news, it was announced that Kutno, Poland will host the 2007 Junior Womens World Championships and that a Task Force has been created by the ISF to help regain Olympic status for Womens softball for the 2016 Games (Womens softball is in the 2008 Olympics but was removed form the 2012 Games, following 2 very close IOC votes). Canada will also host the XI Senior Mens World Championships that will take place in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in 2009. -SC- For more information, please contact Rick Picard Director, Marketing and Communications Softball Canada (613)-523-3386 rpicard(at)softball.ca Al's Fastball News *Email: fastball(at)pmihrm.com [EMAIL PROTECTED] NEWS-1: http://www.AlsFastball.com/ NEWS-2: http://fastpitchwest.com/alsfastball VIA http://www.webbox.com
