Subject: Aussies too good for Venezeula -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Media Release 31 August 2006 The Australian Open Women's team, Aussie Spirit, have defeated Venezeula 9-0 on day five of the ISF Women's World Championship in Beijing China. Australia who lead the results table in Pool B of the Championship, demonstrated strong batting power against Venezeula. Sandra Allen started the game strongly scoring a home run to centre field and Tracey Mosley followed in the top of the second taking Australia to a 2-0 lead. Marissa Carpadios scored a four-run home run in the top of the third, bringing home Simmone Morrow, Allen, for her second, and Stacey Porter. Australia went into the fourth with a 6-0 lead and scored a futher three runs after Mosley singled allowing Morrow and Allen to score. Porter came home on a wild pitch taking the game 9-0. Australia's pitchers, Melanie Roche, Kelly Hardie and Tanya Harding dominated on the mound, with the Venezeula batters unable to score. Australia take on Japan, who are also unbeaten, in tomorrow's play at 7.00pm (AEST).
