Lords Media Release Friday, September 24, 2010 Lords open up the CAN-AM Classic with a win
OSHAWA, Ont. The Durham College womens fastball team picked up a win in the opening game of the CAN-AM Classic on Friday night as they defeated Mohawk College 14-1. The game also counted towards the teams OCAA regular season records, as the Lords improved to 5-0 to begin the year. In her first start with the Lords, Nicole McCoy ( Whitby, Ont.) pitched a gem allowing only one hit and one run (unearned). She struck out five Mohawk hitters over four innings of work, picking up the complete game victory. Shannon Ferguson led the Lords charge at the plate as she was perfect going 3-for-3 with two RBIs and one run scored. Also with three hits on the night was two-time OCAA MVP Erin Dewey who finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Dewey leads the OCAA this year in average (.647), runs (11) and RBIs (11). Samantha Roelofsen, Janna Hagan and Kristin Servinis also had multi-hit nights for Durham. The game was relatively close in the early stages as Durham held a 3-1 lead heading into the fourth inning. In the bottom of the fourth, Durham bats came alive as they scored 11 runs, ending the game in a mercy. Durham will look to win their third straight CAN-AM classic title as they continue action on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. against Seneca College.
