I think that yes, there was a general absence of women at the conference last year, but it seemed to approximately match the general absence of women in the software development field overall.
Microsoft seem to attract a lot of women as testers and as program managers, but a female developer is still a novelty even after working hard to correct that for many years. (Maybe it's different in the ad space where you work.) In other words, it seems to be an industry problem, not an Alt.Net-specific problem, but maybe I have a bad perspective on it.
