It was just an off-hand remark but it seems to have resonated. As developers, we are pretty picky people and we tend to have zero patience with problems in the software we use. We gripe. A lot. Well, one day I was fed up with it: listening to complaints from other developers, having the tools get in the way, feeling pain and friction. It occurred to me, why don't we just make our own IDE, like how a Jedi builds their own lightsaber. Lots of other professions build their own tools as a way to learn and become better with their craft. Why don't we do the same? Yes there are tons of IDEs already available, but the one you build would be the most perfect IDE for you. Yes it is a large task to undertake, but you will learn a lot about how you prefer to work.
