Hi all,
I have updated the deployment draft. Specifically, I tried to address the two
past reviews of the content of the Appendix A ("Monitoring ALTO") and to
improve several other sections.
Major changes compared to -08:
- New text on data sources for the ALTO server
- CDN use case description completely updated, including some text and figures
from draft-jenkins-alto-cdn-use-cases-03
- Short new section on using ALTO in VPNs
- Removal of Appendix A (Appendix: Monitoring ALTO), which was flagged in two
reviews. The replacement is an entirely rewritten Section 3.4.
- Removal of Appendix B (Appendix: API between ALTO Client and Application)
Minor edits:
- Some re-wording in various sections, e.g., in the P2P use case
- Removal of maths in Section 5.2.1
- (Empty) IANA consideration section added
- Additional reference to new ALTO third party discovery draft
Feedback (and text contributions) would be very welcome!
Thanks
Michael

A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the Application-Layer Traffic Optimization
Working Group of the IETF.

Authors : Martin Stiemerling

Filename : draft-ietf-alto-deployments-09.txt
Pages : 52
Date : 2014-02-13
Abstract:
Many Internet applications are used to access resources such as
pieces of information or server processes that are available in
several equivalent replicas on different hosts. This includes, but
is not limited to, peer-to-peer file sharing applications. The goal
of Application-Layer Traffic Optimization (ALTO) is to provide
guidance to applications that have to select one or several hosts
from a set of candidates, which are able to provide a desired
resource. This memo discusses deployment related issues of ALTO. It
addresses different use cases of ALTO such as peer-to-peer file
sharing and CDNs, security considerations, recommendations for
network administrators, and also guidance for application designers
using ALTO.
