YANG was designed to model datastores. It was _not_ designed to model
arbtirary protocol messages. Here is the abstract of RFC 6020:

   YANG is a data modeling language used to model configuration and
   state data manipulated by the Network Configuration Protocol
   (NETCONF), NETCONF remote procedure calls, and NETCONF notifications.

I think this describes the purpose quite clearly. I understand that
people like to expand the scope in several directions and I think it
is good if people experiment with new ideas. However, one important
goal is also to keep YANG highly useful for the original purpose it
was created for.
