If you can use Debian, it makes using and updating altos easy....

I don’t use Linux for anything but this currently, so I needed a lot of help
getting to use the dongle and other things that are different from Linux to
windows. But, after a few steers from these guys I was off an running.

I have an old old old dell, that I dropped on its head a few times, then
scabbed in a Toshiba drive from a Sony viao... and put on Debian. The thing
actually makes hard drive noise like its from the 90’s.

I will just say rocket launches usually cover everything in dirt where I fly,
my car has a special coating underneath and in it, not to mention I am a
scatter brain, so I don’t take anything I don’t care to loose to a launch. so
nice laptops stay at home, and frankenstien ducktaped pc comes to the site.

my last flight pulled the altimeter off the board, (sheared all 4 4-40 nylon
screws) which in turn removed the antenna. I fear it tore the trace. (haven't
had time to look at it yet.)

Booooo...

sometimes, on windows I try to back up and install a release or 2 earlier to
see if the older versions work correctly. Then try the current release.

It can fix the timeout 3000 message. (I think the last time I had that it was a
bad java install link.)

Seriously....I haven't run any Windows software in over a decade, so I cannot
help. But I was only half-silly in my response. An inexpensive windows laptop
is what I usually buy for the kids &/or xyl and then scrub the drive and
install linux. i.e. The mac hardware is too expensive and more especially since
it really doesn't do anymore than a similar laptop that costs much less and can
be bought at any store.

For myself the last two machines (laptops) have been chromebooks that I also
scrub the drive and install linux, but this requires custom kernels and is not
for a novice linux user.

I also only buy laptops or tablets or cell phones anymore.

Hell all,

My Altusmetrum softtware and TeleMetrum were working great on my Win 7P
notebook PC. I tried to verify setting, prior to a launch 3 days. Altos
Metrum wold not run. Alla attempts to reinstall have failed. Any solutions or
suggestions? I keep getting a timeout 3000 message. I know; buy a Mac.
