Hi Bdale,
Thank you for your rapid and detailed response to my query:

I have an uncased (Non-Starter Kit, Serial Number 142) TeleDongle
Version 0.2 which I need to use as a second ground station for my
TeleMega Version 1.0 (and/or my TeleGPS Version 1.0). I've installed it
into a rugged, screened metal enclosure with a 3 metre USB cable so that
it could be located as close as possible to the antenna to minimise
feeder loss.
Wow! That's from the very first production run in Feb of 2010. Very
cool that you're going to put it to use!
I've just come back from my workshop and have had a reasonably
successful day. I've succeeded in flashing the "blank" TeleDongle
Version 0.2 with the TeleDongle 0.2-1.6.1 image (with a RF calibration
value of 0) using my Starter Kit TeleDongle as the programming device. I
did nothing different from last time. However, I did check that the
"blank" TeleDongle did have 5 volts on the power side (which it did and
so assume that it did previously), plus I did try a different USB port
(although Windows did show all of the available ports to be on the same
hub).
This time the I selected the Starter Kit TeleDongle as before but was
presented with a panel displaying zeros for serial number and RF
calibration (rather than the details of the programming device), which
was different from before. I left the RF calibration at zero and set the
serial number to the target before following the prompts and flashing
the appropriate image.
After power cycling the TelDongle the Altos UI reported version 1.6.1 in
the configure ground station panel. I then swapped the cable from the
uncased TeleDongle and used my Starter Kit TeleDongle to flash the
TeleMetrum version 1.2 with the appropriate image, which was successful
with it too reporting the correct image version in the AltOS UI. I then
swapped the cable over and used the updated TeleMetrum version 1.2 to
update the Starter Kit TeleDongle version 0.2 to TeleDongle 0.2-1.6.1
image. All three devices are now at AltOS version 1.6.1 and appear to
function correctly when queried using the AltOS UI. However, I've yet to
check the telemetry link with any of the devices, that will be a job for
next weekend.
In the meantime I have to get access to a frequency counter to measure
the carrier frequency and derive the RF calibration factor for the
previously "blank" TeleDongle. I previously used to work in Satcomms
(Goonhilly SES, Cornwall, UK) and had more test gear available to me
than I could possibly get the time to make use of ... Now things are
quite different and I may have to figure out an alternative.
Again, thank you for your superb after sales customer service.
[Snipped for brevity]
Best regards,
Nigel.
