For Altus Metrum devices, there's no reason to do that; you can look at
the schematic and see that the power switch terminals do precisely what
you want and physically disconnect the battery from the pyro terminals.

If you have a TeleMetrum or TeleMega with GPS receiver, using the
built-in switch terminals will leave the GPS receiver memory connected
to power, saving satellite information and speeding GPS signal
re-acquisition.
