Well... it's certainly possible to remove the patch antenna, but using a
remote GPS antenna might end up being a bit harder than you think.

On TeleMetrum v1 boards, we used an amplified patch with a short
pig-tail to a U.FL connector on the board, but in all current products
we're using a passive patch through a SAW filter directly to the GPS
receiver module.  It's certainly theoretically possible to remove the
patch, install a suitable RF connector, and run coax to a remote GPS
antenna, but I suspect you might want to use an amplified antenna in
such a situation.

I'm curious what about your install makes you think this is a good
solution, though?  Can you share a diagram or photo or something?  We
might be able to find you a simpler solution...
